Like most British working-class people, I’m a keen football fan. The team closest to my heart is my “local” one, Millwall. They are languishing in the Third Division and could drop down to the Fourth in a few weeks. The club was founded in 1885 by Scottish migrants working in a jam factory and so the team plays in blue and white (like the flag of Scotland, which looks a bit like the Confederate one).

As the club has never achieved much, among the big guns I support Liverpool. I used to watch them when I could when I lived in England in the 70s and got hooked.

Today Liverpool have a big game and I ‘m hoping they’ll do well.
