‘Round Midnight

I watched this movie for the first time over the weekend. I’m no jazz expert but do enjoy certain types of jazz very much. This film is excellent. It has such an authentic feel to it. And plenty of live music. Much more than a biopic (which, essentially, it is). It got me thinking how common it was to hear jazz music in the ’50s and ’60s. It was all over the place, in the movies and on the radio and TV. It was part of the backdrop to my life growing up, even though not one of my favorite sorts of music at the time. I have Ken Burns 10-part history of jazz series and learned a lot more about the subject by watching it.
