I’m at least keeping one of my New Year’s resolutions – to read the novels of John Wyndham again. I treated myself to an Ipod touch and downloaded The Day of the Triffids in a Kindle format. The screen is small but I can read on it okay and I don’t have to have a light on at night to read by. Downloading the book was much cheaper than ordering and waiting 7-10 days for it and I was instantly gratified (so important in today’s world).
Well, the book is as good as I remembered it. I can see why younger people could find aspects of it dated but as I am about to turn 60 I have no problem with that. Wyndham owes much to HG Wells, and even Jules Verne, but he deals with a number of modern issues that just won’t go away.
